IT leaders need to choose partners more carefully to avoid failure in digital transformation

Recent research from The Bunker reveals that many organisations are not getting the advice or support they need for successful cloud adoption , with 44 per cent of respondents stating that bad advice from suppliers has been a contributing factor to cloud failure .
The research , which surveyed IT leaders in 100 mid-market and large UK organisations , showed that of the 94 per cent of respondents who confirmed their organisation has already migrated applications or data to cloud infrastructure , 70 per cent said that they had experienced some kind of failure , whether in terms of a failed cloud migration or stalled project , or a failure to realise the business benefits anticipated . Of the 70 per cent of organisations , 44 per cent cited confusing , biased or incorrect advice from key suppliers as a contributing factor to failure .
Despite this , the research highlights that IT leaders are still leaning heavily on suppliers to guide them in putting a hybrid cloud strategy in place . The research shows that there is a good level of engagement with external parties , with the majority of CIOs and IT decision makers stating that they engage with independent consultancies ( 67 per cent ) and key suppliers ( 61 per cent ).
Commenting on the research , Phil Bindley , CTO of The Bunker , said , ’ Many IT leaders are challenged because they lack previous experience in bringing the cloud into their organisation and there are many providers that are poor when it comes to effective delivery .’

SMBs hesitant to switch to 10 Gigabit Ethernet

Three quarters of small and medium sized businesses ( SMBs ) do not currently have the required technology to keep afloat in today ’ s web enabled economies , and just under three quarters ( 72 per cent ) do not see the need to implement 10 Gigabit Ethernet according to a new study by Netgear .
There is a worrying misunderstanding and lack of knowledge about just how crucial future proofing the network with 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology is in an always-on era , despite this being increasingly essential for a business ’ s success .
Although all SMBs surveyed agreed they would need to deploy 10 Gigabit Ethernet switching in their network in the future , only one third ( 33 per cent ) currently have a proportion of the technology in place ( greater than 30 per cent penetration ).
The research showed that a minority of SMBs understand the benefits that 10 Gigabit Ethernet networks can bring , as only one third ( 33 per cent ) are adopting the technology to solve network performance issues when expanding premises , only one third agreed that 10 Gigabit Ethernet would be warranted in the event of increasing video or broadcast streaming , and less than half ( 40 per cent ) plan to migrate to 10 Gigabit Ethernet switching solutions in anticipation of decreasing network bottlenecks . In all suggested use cases , less than half of SMBs considered that 10 Gigabit Ethernet adoption was warranted .
Tris Simmons , director , global product marketing , Netgear , said , ‘ Our research highlighted that the number one reason why SMBs are deploying 10 Gigabit , is to address bottleneck performance issues . Such challenges are only going to increase in prevalence and underpin why 10 Gigabit is appearing more and more on the radar .’
