SPECIAL FEATURE

The terminator ( s )

Canford has now begun its own in-house fibre termination service to better serve its customers . This decision is backed by detailed research , which has shown that in many instances customers must currently rely upon small vendors , who might not have the capacity to handle specialist terminations , to satisfy their fibre requirements .
Following strategic investment , Canford launched its new fibre termination facility at IBC 2016 . The new facility is located at the company ’ s Washington UK headquarters and offers a short lead time service for the termination of LEMO SMPTE , Neutrik opticalCON and other fibre connectors , for situations where speed is of the essence and where high quality , reliable product is critical . Although capable , Canford ’ s fibre termination service is not targeting the production of standard LC / SC fibre patch cables .
The company intends to offer bespoke cable assemblies using various hybrid connectors as well as providing a repair service for customers pre-existing fibre cables . It will also offer UPC , APC terminations and within 12 months 12-way multi fibre ( MPO / MTP ) terminations .
The new clean room facility is equipped with state-of-the-art fibre termination and test equipment . Additionally , the Canford Fibre Termination Team have been recruited from the company ’ s manufacturing staff , having successfully completed LEMO ’ s SMPTE Fibre Termination Training Programme . This means they are able to produce certified termination of LEMO 3K . 93C Series SMPTE fibre connectors .
Test certificates are available if required , and will certify curvature radius , linear and angular offset , spherical fibre height along with a 3D illustration of the ferrule profile . For further information visit : www . canford . co . uk

Innovative enclosures

Hubbell ’ s OptiChannel FCR cabling system is a comprehensive , end to end fibre solution that supports high bandwidth data centre applications , including 10 / 40 / 100GbE .
Complementing the range further is the new addition to the OptiChannel FCR Series fibre enclosures , with a high density 144-port configuration in a 1U space . Designed specifically for data centres , the FCRHD1U Series enclosure is an innovative solution to utilise space without compromising accessibility .
A three-drawer design provides a flexible , scalable , and reconfigurable interconnect facility for a wide array of data centre and fibre distribution applications . Each drawer accepts four compact OCLCHD Series ultra thin LC fibre cassette modules that easily snap into place . Each cassette module has a 12-fibre rear MPO receptacle , to channel traffic into a single 3.0mm cable to minimise congestion .
The compact LC to MPO cassettes and 12-fibre MPO cords , are available in OM3 and OM4 grade multimode and singlemode optical fibers to support the full range of current and future optical network applications . For further information visit : www . hubbell-premise . com

Comprehensive cabling

Designed for data centres , LANs and intelligent buildings , Siemon offers a comprehensive choice of advanced fibre cabling solutions under its LightHouse brand .
Within the LightHouse range are configurable end-toend plug and play systems with pre-terminated MTP , LC and SC cable assemblies including LightStack , an ultra high density plug and play system , that supports up to 40 / 100Gb / s applications and provides quality cable management and user friendly accessibility .
LightHouse also comprises an expanded multimode and singlemode fibre cable offering and an extensive fibre jumper and pigtail line with LC , SC , and ST assemblies in singlemode OS1 / OS2 and multimode , ranging from OM1 to OM4 . Siemon ’ s LC BladePatch jumper is part of this range and features a push-pull latch ideal for high density applications .
Expanded rack and wall mount fibre enclosure options , simplify high density fibre cable and connectivity management and are enhanced by Siemon ’ s data centre cabinet .
LightBow advanced fibre termination system is the latest addition to the LightHouse range . It features an exclusive patent pending termination tool and pre-polished mechanical splice connectors , that together , reduce termination time , prevent fibre end face contamination and air gaps and enable easy verification of termination quality . R & M develops new outdoor fibre optic solution

R & M has developed a new outdoor solution for fibre optic networks .
The Syno dome closure is a modular system for cable entries which eliminates the task of threading fibre optic cables through the closure base . This product from R & M dispenses with time consuming sealing using shrink tubes . Instead , integrated blocks made from the company ’ s own Syno gel seal the splice closure .
A new feature sees cable entries positioned laterally in eight radially arranged bays in the closure duct . The cable entry kits are interchangeable and support any desired configurations as well as mixed assemblies of cables and micro ducts .
With the new Syno dome closure , the fibre optic cables are inserted laterally , doing away with the need to thread them through the closure base . The cable entries can be opened , closed , changed and retrofitted in just a few simple steps . The cable bays and individual cables remain freely accessible .
R & M supplies seven cable entry kits for one to 16 cables , optimised for all typical cable diameters . Cables up to 28mm and micro ducts up to 14mm in diameter fit in the kits , making the dome closure suited to virtually any application – for example as a distribution , branch , or cable joint closure .
