Forward thinking
It is customary for every new editor to sign into the hot-seat with a bit of an introduction . It might come across as wholly professional and a necessary way to assure everyone that the magazine and its readership are in good hands and the future is bright and exciting .
In reality – for the new guy at least – it ’ s more of an attempt to waylay any concerns of what could lie ahead with a new pair of hands at the wheel . It ’ s my chance to showcase my intentions , champion the shape of things to come , and to ramble on about how I will take NCN forward in a fashion not dissimilar to its roots , but excitingly divergent enough to warrant this small but rather self-indulgent introduction .
Well , that is largely the case here , but with one important caveat .
I ’ m jumping into the role of editor at NCN at an exciting time . Network Communications News continues to forge its course as the industry standard publication , effectively reporting the evolution of an industry in constant fl ux , consistently providing insights into network and associated technologies that rarely seem to stand still for even a moment . By the time I ’ ve fi nished writing this , no doubt another notable advancement will have been stamped for approval and will be winging its way to the end user . To say that this is an exciting , fl uctuating and burgeoning industry would be a considerable understatement .
And that brings me to my small caveat . Yes , we ’ ll all be doing our level best to keep NCN on its well walked road and we ’ ll also be making changes to keep it fresh and to keep our readers as informed and stimulated as always . But I won ’ t lay this magazine ’ s next bright few years purely at the door of us keyboard jockeys . I know that it will be this industry that will provide the biggest surprises , the most diverse changes and the most sophisticated leaps from where once we were over the coming months and years . I ’ m just very proud and very excited to be in a positon to bring it all to NCN .
