Yokogawa launches higher-performance successor to the AQ6315A

The new AQ6374 is the successor to the Yokogawa and Ando-branded AQ6315A wideband optical spectrum analyser . Featuring diffraction grating based monochromator technology it delivers highprecision measurement performance and accuracy , an enhanced user interface and an air purging feature . The new instrument offers engineers a powerful benchtop tool for general-purpose optical spectrum measurements over the wavelength range from 350 to 1750nm .
An internal data storage of 512Mbyte is included , and external data storage is supported via a USB interface . Ethernet RJ-45 and GP-IB interfaces are also incorporated . A built-in calibration source is provided for a fully automatic optical alignment and wavelength calibration , which takes just a few minutes .
There is a new purging feature designed to minimise the influence of watervapour absorption on spectral measurements by continuously supplying a pure purge gas such as nitrogen ( or just some dry air ) to the monochromator through dedicated connectors on the back panel .
The AQ6374 also features a user-friendly interface which incorporates a full text menu , aggregation of measurement conditions , display of a ‘ hard key ’ menu the same as the panel layout , and a trace setting menu . For further information visit : www . tmi . yokogawa . com

AFL ’ s Pocket-sized Powerhouse

The FlexScan OTDR series , from AFL , weighing in at less than a pound ( 0.4kg ) is designed to deliver high-performance testing on point-to-point and passive optical networks ( PON ). FlexScan automates test setup , shortens test time and simplifies results interpretation , improving efficiency and reducing the cost of test . Using AFL ’ s SmartAuto multi-pulse acquisition , users are able to detect closely spaced events before a PON splitter whilst locating potential issues on the feeder cable . Results may be stored internally or externally and transferred easily via USB , Bluetooth or Wi-Fi .
Despite its small size FlexScan features a large 4.3in indoor / outdoor touchscreen display providing excellent visibility . Results can be viewed in both AFL ’ s icon-based LinkMap view and OTDR trace view , allowing users to quickly and easily locate faults and identify necessary corrective action supported by PASS & FAIL indicators . FlexScan comes integrated with a Visual Fault Locator ( VFL ) with options to add an Optical Power Meter ( OPM ) and Optical Light Source ( OLS ).
‘ FlexScan is an example of our commitment to delivering next-generation Optical Test Equipment to customers around the world . Our engineering team has worked hard to develop OTDR algorithms that increase performance without complexity . Expect to see more cutting edge technology from AFL during 2017 as we ramp up our developments efforts ’, said Nicholas Cole , EMEA marketing manager at AFL .
