What a Hoot!
On a day that was predicted to have a little rain (but none actually came), 272 riders showed up for a fantastically fun way to start the season.
The Hoot Owls club put on the Tri-State Trot turkey run and it was a hit. I had a blast doing this ride with 17 of my fellow Pathfinders club members.
The event seemed like it was basically run in reverse order from years past. Out of the start, we did a short road section and then just a few stretches of cart road. With trail sections getting tougher and tougher to find these days, it was natural to worry that most of the day was going to be two-track. But these fears quickly were corrected. The Hoots did a great job of stringing
together some virgin trail intermixed with a few of their signature hare scramble tracks. In the middle of the day we were greeted with a moto track and it was a good wake-up for those of us with a deep-seated fear of doubles. Riders were offered a chance to do multiple laps on the moto track if they wanted.
The club had a curve ball thrown at them the night before the event. The gas station that was planned to be the event's gas stop was out of fuel and would be closed. A good solution was found and they provided a gas truck to one of the members' houses. Coming into the gas stop, riders were treated to one of many flowing, technical, classic
