NEW BIKE TIPS
Regardless of the brand or dealer, here are some tips to help you with your new bike. First thing you should do when you get your new bike home is open the Owner’s Manual and confirm that all the clickers are in the standard position. Second thing I always do is break all the pinch bolts loose on the front suspension and re-torque. Repeat for the front axle too. Adjust all the controls to your liking; angle of the levers and the position of the shifter. The dealer will set the bike up in a very neutral position. It is almost guaranteed that you will feel more comfortable after you’ve adjusted to your liking. Of course, check all oil levels. Hit the brake rotors with brake cleaner! And finally check your static sag level, but don’t be too concerned with rider sag. Brand new springs will break in and rider sag can change 10-20mm in the first 5 hours alone.
After your first ride, sit down with the bike and check all the chassis and suspension hardware. Check all of the cover bolts on the motor and check both axles. It is very common, especially with anything hard mounted to the chassis, that some hardware will loosen up from vibration. The chain will stretch and need to be adjusted. You should also check the tension of all the spokes.
