NETRA News March 2019 | Page 16

As the 2018 NETRA season wound down, I made a decision to sell my model year 2017 Husqvarna and purchase a new bike. When making a decision on a new bike I always weigh What do I want vs. What do I need. To continue in the 250 class I'll need a 250cc bike, and I do prefer a linkage rear suspension. Working at the dealership, you get the chance, at one point or another, to ride nearly all the bikes in the model lineup. For us at Edelmanns, that is both KTMs and Husqvarnas. That ability to ride a TPI bike sealed the deal on my decision. From the moment I first rode the fuel injected 2 stroke I knew that I would own one! And the Husqvarna TE250i fit the bill, linkage suspension, 250cc, wide ratio transmission, it is exactly what I was looking for!

Features: The TE250i is furnished with all the high-end components that you come to expect from the now Austrian owned brand. The TPI fuel injection is the stand out feature for 2019. We’ll explore that in detail below. Marketed as the premium brand coming from the KTM group, there are a few things that separate the TE from KTM’s XC-W. Those items include the Billet and anodized triple clamps, DID rims, linkage rear suspension and the composite subframe. The TE also features an external spring pre-load adjuster on the WP Xplor fork and Magura brake systems front and rear. All that and you almost forget that you also get a map switch and composite skid plate.

Transfer Port Injection Explained: The TE250i is fuel injected using the same fuel pump as its 4 stroke brothers. There is no need to premix fuel as a separate oil reservoir and oil pimp delivers the lubrication. The real innovation in this design (and what sets it apart from what is seen on 2 stroke snowmobiles and outboard motors) is that the fuel is injected into the transfer port of the cylinder.
