T HERE ARE MANY WAYS TO FLIP A ROOM AND TURN IT INTO a functional space . The client wanted just that for this waterfront property and took its standard ranch design and transformed the den behind the two-car garage into a spacious , open-concept kitchen .
The progression of a project doesn ’ t have to be linear . The client started the renovation pre-pandemic with a different designer from Riverhead Building Supply , but the progress was halted by the pandemic . The interior of the modest ’ 60s ranch was completely gutted and transformed . When the kitchen project resumed in 2021 , Julia , a designer at Riverhead Building Supply , was more than happy to oblige . Through phone calls , video calls and emails with sketches and ideas , the two sides made the vision come to life .
Originally , the client wanted to update what was already there , but at the recommendation of her daughter , the kitchen was a complete flip from start to finish . The client ’ s daughter is a chef and offered her professional insight on the best layout . Julia ’ s suggestion of the placement of the fridge and range made all the difference in the narrow , U-shaped kitchen . The ILVE stainless steel and brass-accented range now takes center stage along the short wall with open floating shelves surrounding the hood .
