The homeowners host six to eight large-scale dinner parties each year , and in warmer months want to be able to expand into multiple spaces . When the doors are open , it allows for an indoor / outdoor flow between the great room and terrace , maximizing lounge space and creating flexible dining options . The firepit on the lower terrace is more suitable for intimate conversation away from the bustling indoor fireplace lounge and bar . However , guests wouldn ’ t be entirely secluded , as the large windows on each side of the interior fireplace overlook the space .
While the Calores bask in the beauty of the design , the most rewarding feedback is about the continuity of the space , both between the main home and addition as well as the exterior . Guests often say , “ We just can ’ t believe how much this feels like this has always been here ,” a compliment to all parties involved in the design process . The final product is a home of many projects over the years that look like they were constructed all at the same time .
“[ It ’ s ] a true testament to that collaboration and longtime vision and planning that differentiates Red House from others ,” Michael Calore says . “ Taking the bones of the home and being able to see its potential , it ’ s a pretty incredible vision .” ◆
