The owner of this spacious home had big plans for her kitchen remodel — a project that would prove to present a number of unique challenges . When she turned to Riverhead Building Supply , a building supply company with showrooms in Middletown , North Kingstown and Westerly , their team was excited to rise to the occasion , get creative and help make her dream a reality .
Riverhead ’ s designer , Kerry Janis , worked directly with the client from the jump , taking the time to discuss and plot out the logistics and aesthetics . “ The customer had great ideas ,” she says . “ She was open to asymmetry and a mix of finishes , which is great . Not many people are comfortable with asymmetry .” One example in this design is the upper cabinets to the left of the sink while floating wood shelves sit in the corner to the right .
A challenge was the powder room that connects to the left end of the kitchen . Though the owner planned to open up the adjacent wall to the dining room ( see : beautiful wooden beams bordering the expanded kitchen entrance ), she also wanted to retain the unconventional bathroom entry so the adjoining hallway could instead serve as private access to the bedrooms . But how does one camouflage a bathroom door in the kitchen ? Well , by making it look like a second pantry , of course .
“ The homeowner saw the idea online ,” Janis explains . “ We ordered a similar pantry door style and adjusted some of the measurements and then her installer , who was very talented , fit
