Peter had started a second career as a chef, so another priority was a dream kitchen complete with professional Wolf range and range hood. “They wanted an open kitchen for entertaining but also convenience for everyday meals since this will eventually be their full-time home,” Senzek explains. The kitchen now revolves around the three- by-ten-foot island that seats six. Senzek’s design incorporated bold perimeter cabinetry in a deep rich gray, contrasted by a white island with a more distinctive stone pattern for its quartz countertop. Retro white tile in a stacked pattern serves as a backsplash from countertop to ceiling. The resulting neutral palette allows them to accent with color. Beyond beautiful results, every kitchen needs maximum storage and functionality. Before, the room’s footprint was long and narrow, reminiscent of a bowling alley. Senzek moved the work space forward to tuck a six-by-ten-foot walk-in pantry behind the stove wall for all their cookware, appli- ances and foodstuffs. The two-phase project took twelve weeks to complete. “They trusted us to manage the entire project, from build-out to finishing touches, and we kept to their calendar,” says Senzek. “They were thrilled with the results. Before, you couldn’t even see the water. Now, it’s the first thing you notice.” Not being local did not pose a problem. RIKB streamlines the process with a shared portal where clients can see progress photos and invoices. Weekly phone meetings took care of any questions, and the homeowners had direct cell phone access to their designers, project managers and construction managers with Senzek as a central point of contact. In a happy twist to this design story, Becca enjoyed the process of working with RIKB so much that she enrolled in Rhode Island School of Design’s Interior Design program and plans to take on other projects herself. And Senzek can add “career muse” to her resume. ◆ Creating Dream Spaces You’ll Love Our award-winning team is known all over southern New England for designing and creating spaces perfectly suited for you, your family and your lifestyle.
