ROOMS TO LOVE Bright and Efficient Jocelyn Chiappone of Digs Design Company opens up a South County kitchen with a new design and flow. PHOTO GR APH BY GREG PREMRU F R O M T H E D E S I G N E R : “When we first bought this historic property in Matunuck, we found it had undergone a renovation in the ‘80s which did not properly honor the opportunities for space, light and function. In fact, the kitchen pictured here had been a living room with extremely low ceilings. My first mission was to achieve more height and optimize the light from the east and west sides of the home. We added dormers to each side of the new kitchen to enjoy east-facing light in the mornings and west-facing light in the evenings. Once we opened up the space and allowed for more brightness, the rest fell into place. We designed the kitchen while taking great care to solve for our daily routines and rituals. For example, the coffee bar and banquette seating is located near the stairway, so venturing downstairs in the morning and heading straight to a beautiful coffee bar is an immediate dose of happy. The oversized island, in a three-inch thick Calacatta bluette marble with end-grain walnut, is not only the piece de resistance, but makes for the perfect place for family and guests to gather and linger around. A plethora of custom-designed cabinetry offers an array of storage opportunities. We love to cook and entertain, and this kitchen has brilliantly answered our functional and aesthetic needs and desires!” Digs Design Company To learn more about Digs Design Company, see page 32 | digsdesignco.com | @digsdesignco   RHODE ISLAND MONTHLY’S NEST | 2020    27
