Classic, Custom, Creative The opening of Calderwood Custom Millwork marked a new chapter for this long-term team of exceptional custom woodworkers. For almost three decades, Joe Yoffa of Yoffa Woodworking inspired his crew to build carefully and correctly while always considering the many facets of building with wood and the importance of schedule. Upon Yoffa’s much-deserved retirement, Dan Kinsella, a Rhode Island custom home builder who had worked frequently with Joe, recognized the value of keeping the crew together and opened the company under its new name, Calderwood — a reference to a family namesake. When asked why he took on a custom millwork business, Kinsella explained, “Because there is an art to custom woodworking and it takes a long time to learn it well. I had a great history with Joe, so continuing with his crew who are already so knowledgeable and efficient and who work together so well, made sense.” Today, Calderwood is just as dedicated to creating first-rate cabinetry, as well as re-facing existing work, creating custom doors and windows, stair parts, moldings, countertops and other custom pieces for homeowners, designers and contractors on both the commercial and residential level. The team’s recent projects range from a beautifully curved wooden bar for a popular tour boat to a private office with walls entirely covered by an elegant, integrated design of custom cherry paneling, trim and cabinetry. In both past and present, Calderwood’s experience, great attention to detail and inherent sense of teamwork results in one-of-a kind projects that maintain beauty and integrity for years to come. ◆ CALDERWOOD MILLWORK, 62 Halsey St., Unit I, Newport, 401-846-7659, calderwoodmillwork.com 62 Halsey Street, Unit i Newport, Rhode Island 02840 | (401) 846-7659 | calderwoodmillwork.com RHODE ISLAND MONTHLY’S NEST | 2020    71
