appealing and attractive. “The condo is under 1,000
square feet, so opening up the space to make it feel
larger and maximizing storage were top priorities.
Both can be challenging, especially in a condo
where we’re bound by neighboring walls and certain
existing conditions,” she says. “The collaboration
between Shannon at Riverhead, Maloney Interiors
and DBR Builders proved successful!”
Raposa understood the look the designer was going
for in the renovation overall and kept her kitchen
and bath designs focused on fitting into the coastal
theme by incorporating light colors and glass-fronted
cabinets. To maximize the space and functionality of
the kitchen, Raposa suggested specialized cabinetry
which included rollout cabinets under the cooktop,
to allow full access to the back of the cabinet, and a
full corner roll out, which makes use of a blind corner
cabinet. To complement the design, a drawer-style
refrigerator and drawer-style dishwasher were fitted
neatly into base cabinets and given custom cabinetry
on the front. Covering appliances with a special front
panel keeps the kitchen from looking like a sea of
equipment. Rather than a wall oven or range with
cooktop and oven, the client opted for a microwave
/ convection oven combination. Raposa designed a
custom cabinet to fit the oven and follow the slope of
the ceiling, making good use of a snug space.
In addition to tailoring the cabinetry to fit the
space, Raposa was able to find solutions that fit
the client’s tastes perfectly. When the first brand of
cabinetry selected did not suit the client’s needs, she
was able to provide the same custom appearance
using Tedd Wood semi-custom Landmark cabinets.
Tedd Wood crafts cabinetry that has all of the
desirable design details homeowners want, at a
reasonable price.
In the powder room, the client’s selection of a
countertop was the driving force behind the painted
finish color of the cabinetry, which Raposa was able
to customize for the client. In the master bath, elegant
quarter sawn white oak with a wash of neutral stain
evokes the look of driftwood in a timeless way.
Raposa has been creating cabinetry designs at
Riverhead Building Supply for five years and will
complete nearly 100 projects this year alone. Her
passion is to do it all. “I love a design challenge
from a client,” she says. “Many of my clients are
not working with an interior designer, and I enjoy
helping them to distill their ideas into the perfect
selections of cabinetry style, finish and paint colors,
countertop, flooring, tile and trim.”
