MILAN 2015 FEEDING THE
WORLD ENERGY FOR LIFE
Our planet is unique as we have no other planet like ours in the universe, yet. Since it is
unlikely for us to find another planet as valuable as ours in the near future, we need to learn
how to use our resources more accurately in order to support life in the long term. As our
population increases, we have to take immediate action to supply food for the new members
of our planet.
Ever since the human race was created, the very first thing it searched for was food and
water, in order to support itself. As people began adapting themselves to their environment,
the relationship between the two began to change. Their desire for food increased day by
day and they learned to take control of their environment. Humans first hunted wild animals
and gathered vegetables and fruits. However, as their resources diminished, they
acknowledged that some new ways had to be developed to support their hungry and
growing population. Men began settling on fertile land, because they understood that they
had to plant and cultivate crops in order to sustain their population. This was actually
humanity’s turning point. From there on, they began to improve their techniques for feeding
their population. With the improvements in technology over hundreds of years, we have
reached a huge milestone in food production. Technology has come to a point that can help
us feed every single member of our population. At this point one may ask the following
question: “Why do we still have people who suffer from hunger and malnutrition in regards
to our superficial potential for producing food for everyone on the planet?” Today, some 850
million people on our planet do not have enough food to live a healthy life. Have we been
able to successfully apply all these techniques which we have learned and developed ever
since our creation, looking at the situation that we encounter today?
