Young mother guided down new road.
“ I don’ t know how to play with my own baby!” Not an uncommon issue when your child has been diagnosed with Failure to Thrive, but being a young single parent in poverty brings along a very unique set of challenges. Only 14 years old, sitting uncomfortably in the living room of her grandmother’ s south Lorain apartment with tired and fearful eyes, Natalie occupies the small space on the couch with her baby Anna. Looking significantly tiny for a 6 month old, Anna coos quietly as she sits in her mother’ s arms playing with her newly discovered toes. Obvious to Help Me Grow Home Visiting Program social worker Kelly, this quiet moment is rare.
Kelly begins to calm this emotional young mother. Desperate for direction, she develops a method to address the needs of both baby and Mommy. With your support, mothers like Natalie are put in touch with home visit certified social workers that help shine light on a road that no one should ever have to travel alone. for more information visit: www.
