Negro World November 2013

SPECIAL EDITION: LIFELONG GARVEYITE FAMILY TORN APART BY OPPRESSIVE SYSTEM

African brothers and sisters, this month’s Negro World is the start of a new ongoing series where UNIA member families, our most passionate Garveyites, will be profiled starting with the Little family in the small town of Lansing, MI. The Littles have been subject to the oppressive whims of the Lansing bureaucracy after the brutal murder of the dedicated UNIA organizer, Reverend Earl Little in 1933. This is further proof that the American Negros only place is back in the ancestral African homeland, where they previously ruled as King and Queens over vast land and resources.

The family unit is now led by the strong African woman, Ms. Louise Little, and her 5 children. Lansing, MI is a mostly white town who has not suupported the Littles arrival and have actively targeted the family for their work as Garveyites. Losing the breadwinner of the family had taken its toll as Ms. Little is forced to deal with the constant harassment of the Michigan state welfare agency, only to receive a paltry sum and bags of food. Without steady income, the family can barely cover food or clothing for the harsh winters of Northern United States. The intersection of

poverty and their black skin has caused much mental, physical and educational hardship for the family, like the 50% of American Negros in similar dire situations. This has been particularly hard on the children, whose pride in their ancestry and hard work cannot stop their victimization. The children attend Lansing

Louise Little and her deceased husband, the great advocate for United Negro Improvement Agency (UNIA) in Lansing, Michigan, and former President of Milwaukee Branch
