What has been your favourite race / marathon to compete in ?
Not only was this the first time competing in the marathon but it was also my first time in Cape Town . The Two Oceans half marathon was my first long-distance run and my favourite . The race is run against a backdrop of spectacular scenery and I was proud of my body and mental strength throughout the race .
If you could compete in any marathon , which one would it be ?
Definitely , the Great Wall Marathon .
What are you looking forward to when completing the Nedbank Runified Challenges ?
I ’ m looking forward to the monthly challenges with like-minded people , improving my strength and finding a reason to get back on the road with a purpose and a goal in mind .
Do you have any tips for new runners ?
My top three tips for new runners are : 1 Invest in the right pair of shoes . I wish someone had told me this when I started running . I was in physio after every run because I never changed my running shoes . buy the right shoe size , ask if it was designed for running or training ( purpose ); don ’ t buy for looks , think fit and feel rather than fashion . 2 Slow it down , be patient and don ’ t worry about pace . Gradually build mileage , listen to your body and don ’ t forget ‘ It ’ s okay to be a beginner ’. 3 Join a running club / community . Virtual challenges could be the motivation and community you need during these times .
