What has been your favourite race / marathon to compete in ?
Definitely the Two Oceans Ultramarathon . It truly is the world ’ s most beautiful marathon . My other favourite is the Rio de Janeiro Marathon , which I did in 2019 . It was the most well-organised running event I have ever attended and the scenery around Rio was beyond beautiful and the people were amazing .
If you could compete in any marathon , which one would it be ?
The Great Wall of China Marathon . It has been a dream of mine for many years . It looks physically brutal yet beautiful . I have always wanted to see the wall and running is one of the best ways to explore different places .
What are you looking forward to when completing the Nedbank Runified Challenges ?
I ’ m looking forward to pushing myself again on the road . Perhaps set some new personal bests ( PBs ), since I ’ ve been on a running sabbatical and through motivating myself to get back on the road , I ’ m hoping to inspire others to get off their couches and do the same .
Do you have any tips for new runners ?
Take it easy . Literally . Run slowly and instead of stopping for breaks , alternate it with brisk walking - even if you break it down to running from one lamp post to the next and switch to brisk walking to the one after that and then resuming the running . So run to one , walk to one . It ’ s better to start slowly than to start too hard and potentially injure yourself or even blow out . Rome wasn ’ t built in one day so take it one day at a time .
