The total prize purse on offer for the Nedbank Runified Breaking Barriers 50km has attracted the crème of the crop of not only South African distance runners , but international runners as well .

After a year of little or no racing due to the global COVID pandemic , the news of the new Nedbank Runified Breaking Barriers 50km would have met with great excitement – and some relief – amongst marathon and ultra runners alike . The event not only offers a highly lucrative first place prize of R100,000 , plus a Biogen hamper , for both the men ’ s and women ’ s winner , but the prize money stretches as far as the top 10 men and women .

Furthermore , an athlete that wins the race and also sets a new World Best in the process stands to pocket another R150,000 on top of the first place prize money . A Continental Best for 50km will also earn an athlete an extra R5000 incentive , so a winner with a World Best time will take home a cool R255,000 in cash !
The full prize money breakdown for the Nedbank Runified Breaking Barriers 50km , for both men and women , is as follows : 1 R100 000 plus Biogen hamper 2 R40 000 plus Futurelife hamper 3 R15 000 plus Bavaria hamper 4 R8 000 plus Nike hamper 5 R7 000 6 R1 000

New World Best : R150,000 Should both the winning male and female athletes set a new World Best , both will be paid an extra R150,000 incentive . Naturally , this amount will only be paid to the winner of the event – if more than one athlete runs faster than the World Best , only the winner will receive the bonus .
Continental record : R5000
This incentive will be paid to the highest placed man
and women from any continent that sets a new Continental Best .
Medals Special gold medals will be awarded to the top 10 men and women , and all other finishers will received silver medals .
All prize money and incentives will be paid to athletes after doping control results have been received , and prize money will be paid directly into the athlete ’ s bank account , unless otherwise requested by the athlete .
The event holds an IAU bronze label , and everything has been done to ensure compliance in the event of a new World or Continental Best being set .
