WHY INSULATION?

THERMAL COMFORT OF YOUR HOME

The fabric-first revolution: why your home’ s insulation is more important than your heating system.
At SWIP, we’ re passionate about helping people make their homes warmer, more energy-efficient, and better ventilated- without the stress. We design trusted insulation and ventilation systems and supply high-quality materials that meet the latest industry standards and building regulations.

WHY INSULATION?

When you embark on a major home renovation or self-build, the“ glamour” items usually take centre stage: the sleek kitchen, the bi-fold doors, or the latest air-source heat pump. But there is a silent hero that dictates whether your home will be a sanctuary or a drafty, expensive-to-run burden: the building fabric.
The current trend is low-carbon heating, but installing a heat pump in an uninsulated home is a bit like trying to fill a bucket with a hole in the bottom. A heat pump is designed to heat the space within your rooms. However, in a“ leaky” house, that heat immediately begins to migrate through uninsulated solid walls, draughty lofts, and cold floors, losing up to 35-40 % of heat. By securing the walls, floors, and roof first with a Fabric-First approach, you create a sealed“ thermal envelope.” This keeps the heat where you paid for it to be, allowing your heat pump to run at lower, more efficient temperatures- exactly as it was designed to do- and you get a high payback in saving up to £ 550 a year on energy bills.
THE‘ OLD HOME’ SPECIALISTS
If you own a period property, you know it“ breathes” differently. Standard DIY insulation often fails because it doesn’ t account for the unique physics of older buildings. Our Internal Wall Insulation( IWI) is widely recognised as the gold standard for older homes. It provides high thermal performance while maintaining the structural integrity of your property, ensuring that the charm of your home is matched by modern-day comfort.
