NEA 2019-2020 – The Process and Briefs Explained
Overview
The coursework is worth 30% of your overall grade, so it is in your interest to do the best you possibly can. You will
be working on your coursework until April 2020, when it will be taken in marked, moderated and marks sent to AQA.
This means you have almost a year to complete the work. Be warned, time passes by VERY quickly and you must ensure
you meet interim deadlines to ensure you get feedback.
AQA states you cannot have written feedback so attendance in your once a week coursework session will be
paramount. Until the end of the academic year 2019 you will have two sessions a week starting at week 34/36 one
session will be researching and understanding the codes and conventions of the products, the other will be
practical production. In September this will drop down to one session a week; practical production only.
If you choose to video elements these must be completed outside of class and brought in every session to be checked.
The majority of content has some video element so must get organised and ask for help as it will not be being taught in
class. Please ask for technical help as soon as you need it time and resources will be limited because Film Studies and
UAL courses will be making demands on equipment and staff. Media equipment and technical help can be booked by
emailing [email protected] or [email protected] Please be aware that you are all doing individual tasks so
you are responsible for having something to do in the class. Teachers can only facilitate and help you realise your ideas
and guide you in a general way.
Timetabling permitting there will be extra sessions in e120 where you can come and do work and ask for help.
You will be issued with a week-by-week chart, where each week you will enter what you have done in class, what you
have done at home and what you will do in the next session. This will get signed in each class and be a guide for your
progress. It will also have deadlines on it so you will always have a clear idea of where you should be up to.
Please note that you will need to considerable work outside of class, but you will have at least 2 free periods a
day next year, plus over summer to do your work.
Very Important : Set up a Dropbox of googledrive account so that you can share and store your work. The last thing
you want is to do work and then for it do disappear. This does happen so do not let it happen to you.
What you will produce:
1. A statement of intent (500 words) that outlines what you WILL do.
What media languages you will use to construct your products
What and how you will appeal to your audience
What representations you will use
What ideas and messages you intend to send
What codes and conventions of form and genre you will be using.
2. Cross platform products – your briefs. – Each brief has a cross-platform nature of the three
platforms.
