Brief 5 Create a trailer for a new TV drama series. You should select one of the following
genres: family drama/crime drama and create 4 pages of a culture magazine. The
magazine targets adult audiences who enjoy the analysis and critical discussion of
popular culture.
Technical skills and personal skills needed:
This is a very demanding brief so an ability to work outside is vital
Organisation skills: people, location shoots ect.
The ability to communicate meaning through mise-en-scene
Being interested in culture: film, tv, art etc:-

Crime drama or Family drama
The trailer will be shown on the broadcasting channel and will also be available for viewers to watch on YouTube.
The new prime-time, pre-watershed TV series will be broadcast on a mainstream channel and will seek to attract a
family audience. The trailer should be suitable to be shown on the channel at any time of the day.
Trailers needs to show the best bits of your show so you will need careful storyboard your trailer to reflect specific
and narrative codes.

You will need to come up with a suitable name for your show which refer to the crime drama/family drama
genre. Think about the conventions of the drama we have done in class:
Crime: Set pieces like chase scenes, mortuary, funerals, estates:- you can create an effective trailer with a good
range of settings and music.
