to activities like rollerblading,
jogging or cycling.
Friday Night Skate is a

that happens in the summer.
The route always starts at
Vondelpark and moves
through different streets in
the city.
Everyone gets around on a
bicycle in Amsterdam and
you can rent them almost
anywhere. Some residents
AMSTERDAM
even head to the city’s
forested park, Amsterdamse
Bos, for a more sporty
cycling experience.
Sports like kite surfing,
flyboarding and racing in
kite buggies are growing
in popularity. Ijmuiden
aan Zee is a long stretch
of beach, only 35 minutes
from Amsterdam, which is
a favourite spot for windy
sports fans. Windsurfers in

In winter, if the temperature drops below -4° C for
four nights in a row, a layer of ice is produced along
the canals that is thick enough to skate on. This is a
favourite pass time in Amsterdam and boat traffic
is even blocked to allow the water to freeze
in certain canals.
