Egyptians relaxed in ways similar to modern times . Rich Egyptian women would hang out together and listen to music . The women would carry around cosmetic containers with eye paint that was either green or black . Face makeup was worn by both men and women as it was thought to have healing powers and was a good way to protect the skin from the sun . Children would play with toys such as spinning tops and wooden animals . Men would gather together and hunt . The afterlife was very important to the Egyptians . They believed that preserving a body in a certain manner , known as mummification , would help ensure that one ' s soul would live on in the afterlife forever . Poor Egyptians would be buried in the sand , while rich Egyptians would be buried in tombs . These tombs would be filled with belongings like jewelry and games . The walls would also be painted inside of the tombs .
