The results of my data review will be shared statewide this next year with my districts and nationally.

Meeting with several of you discussing the future of NCSTIIID gives me hope for next year’s President, Ivanna Mann Thrower Anderson. I am excited to move to the position of Past-President and ready to assist the 2018-19 NCSTIIID Executive Board as they continue to inspire, advocate and support our Nation’s English Learners!

Please consider joining me in November for a Special NCSTIID Meeting in Santa Fe, NM and at the NCSTIIID Annual Meeting in March in Orlando, FL. The work of NCSTIIID supports all English Learners in every school in the U.S. Join us and advocate for our students.

Thank you for a great 17-18!

TESOL ADVOCACY DAY

Karen Solis, an EL Educator from NC, represented the NCSTIIID at the International TESOL Advocacy Summit in Washington, DC. June 18-19th. Presentations were given by John Segota, MPS, CAE Associate Executive Director for Public Policy & Professional Relations; Jose Viana, Director of OELA; as well as others. During the Summit, advocates were prepared to ask legislators to support HR 4838, which focuses on Reaching English Learners, as well as the continuance of OELA.

After the Summit, on June 20, Solis visited six offices,

including that of Virginia Foxx, to advocate for English Learners. Fox is the head of the House Education and the Workforce Committee.
