Speak Up Newport Hosts April 12 Meeting on Newport ’ s General Plan with Former Mayor Nancy Gardner

To help celebrate Earth Day on Saturday , April 22 , the City of Newport Beach is hosting a free document shredding , E-waste disposal and compost distribution event from 8 a . m . to noon at the Newport Beach Corporation Yard , 592 Superior Ave
This Earth Day event is brought to you by the City of Newport Beach and CR & R .
The event will feature free document shredding , e-waste disposal , and a compost giveaway . Residents can bring up to 10 standard file boxes of documents for shredding and can receive up to five , 30-lb . bags of compost while supplies last . Please note that residency will be verified , so don ’ t forget to bring identification .
The shredder can accommodate most materials including bank and financial

statements , credit card statements or pre-approved credit card offers , old IRS tax forms , checks or bills , old credit cards and plastic / paper membership cards , junk mail , and documents bound with staples or paper clips .
Please note that x-rays or larger plastic items such as binders cannot be accepted .
Acceptable items for e-waste disposal include computers , computer monitors , keyboards , televisions , flat panels , other monitors , printers , DVD players , cell phones , and other small electronic devices .
Medical waste , batteries and other household hazardous waste will not be accepted .

UCI Health Diabetes Center Holds Fundraiser April 20 at Newport Beach Country Club

The city of Newport Beach is currently amending its General Plan to include 4,845 new housing units as well as update it to reflect current resident vision of the city ’ s future .
How will the City do that and maintain the quality of life enjoyed by Newport Beach residents ? How will traffic and environmental impacts be addressed in this plan ? How will your neighborhood be affected ?
Get the answers to these and other questions on Wednesday , April 12 , when former Mayor Nancy Gardner , the General Plan Advisory Committee Chair , discusses in detail how her committee will create the City ’ s new General Plan and incorporate these housing mandates .
There will be an opportunity to ask Nancy questions at the meeting and provide your thoughts on what should be done , including written suggestions for her committee to consider .
The meeting starts at 5:15 p . m . with a reception hosted by The Bungalow Restaurant . Program wit Nancy Gardner is 6 to 7 p . m .
The meeting will be held at the Civic Center Community Room , 100 Civic Center Dr . The Community Room is on the right ( directly across from City Council Chambers ) when you enter the complex on Civic Center Drive . Parking is available in the Parking Structure and in the parking lot adjacent to the structure .
The meeting is free and no registration is necessary .

This year ’ s celebration will honor Dean and Mei Yoost for their extraordinary dedication to the advancement of diabetes research .
This entertaining , fun event features a fabulous silent auction , wine and beer , heavy hors d ’ oeuvres , and a diabetes research update .
Since its inception , supporters of the event have raised more than $ 7.2 million for diabetes research . Every penny raised goes directly to innovative , life-saving diabetes research conducted by UC Irvine ’ s world-class physician-scientists . No fees or expenses for the event are ever deducted from donations .
