Every year around the holidays , Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort holds its annual Lighting of the Bay featuring more than 50 floating holiday decorations and Christmas trees .
This year , Newport Dunes is adding to the festive fun with its inaugural Fire & Ice Festival , featuring one of Orange County ’ s largest waterfront ice rinks that spans
4,000 square feet .
The festival kicks off a season of holiday fun at Newport Dunes starting with an opening night celebration on November 24 alongside the 33rd Annual Lighting of the Bay .
“ This year , we celebrate the return of our beloved Lighting of the Bay with a magical holiday experience like never before ,” says Phil Ravenna , General Manager of

As we enter into this busy time of the year , it can be easy to let safety fall to the bottom of our to-do lists … and burglars are ready to take advantage of this .
This is where a little extra planning and awareness can go a long way .
Here are some ways that you can eliminate easy opportunities for burglars as you do your shopping , attending holiday functions or travel to see loved ones .
If you are doing your shopping out and about …
• Never leave your valuables unattended ( phone , purse , wallet , etc .).
• Use a purse with zipper & keep it zipped closed .
• Do not hang your purse over the back of your chair while dining out . Keep your valuables in your line of sight .
• Park your vehicle in a well-lit area .
• Have your keys in your hand when approaching your car . Check the back seat and around the car before getting in .
• Do not leave shopping bags visible in car windows . Take them directly home if possible . If not , place them in the trunk ( out

A critical and long-awaited project to replenish beach sand along 12 miles of Orange County coastline -- including Newport Beach ’ s -- is at last coming to fruition . U . S . Army Corps of Engineers contractors are preparing to start work later this month .

Crews will dredge about 1.2 million cubic yards of sand about two miles off the coast of Surfside and Sunset beaches and deposit it on a stretch of beach south of the Seal Beach naval station .
Over the next few years , through natural wave and tidal flow , the sand will move south to replenish beaches at Huntington , Bolsa
