High School
Last school year, NBHS added a new course known as a Biomedical Science program. This course follows a proven hands-on, real-world problem-solving approach to learning. Students explore the concepts of human medicine and are introduced to topics such as physiology, genetics, microbiology, and public health. Through activities, like dissecting a hea t, students examine the processes, structures, and interactions of the human body – often playing the role of biomedical professionals. They also explore the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment
of a disease, working collaboratively to investigate and design innovative solutions to the health challenges of the 21st century, such as fighting cancer with nanotechnology. For the 2nd year, Mrs. McMurtry created a crime scene investigation to intro the course. A new wrinkle was added this year with Mr. Sorensen’s drama student’s role playing victims and witnesses to the crime.
Cross-Curricular Opportunites
The National Honor Society will host the first blood drive of the school year: Wednesday, Sept. 12. The need for blood is urgent. Students must be 17 years of age or older OR be 16 with signed (form) parent permission.
