A Message from the Superintendent
Welcome back from what I trust was a relaxing holiday break! As I sit here writing this article for our third issue of the NB Broncos Academics e-Magazine, I am reminded of how important it is to maximize the time we are given on this earth.
Earlier this week, we were informed of the passing of Preston Orr. Mr. Orr lived in North Branch for all 89 years of his life and he touched so many people. He served our country in the U.S. Army and our community in so many ways as a third generation owner of the Daniel Orr and Son's Hardware Store. Mr. Orr was a North Branch graduate and also graduated from Albion College with honors. In reading Mr. Orr's obituary, it is quite clear he had a love for his country, community, family, and education.
On Monday night (Jan 9), our Board of Education discussed and adopted three goals for the 2017 school year. Those goals will center on school achievement, adopting a fiscally conservative budget that prioritizes teaching and learning, and maintaining partnerships of integrity and trust with our community. We will work daily to make progress on those goals in order to provide the best education possible for all North Branch students.
So, while Preston Orr graduated from North Branch Area Schools in 1945, we can learn a great deal from what he valued in his life that still apply to us in 2017. Our district will focus on student achievement so our customers (students) have the same opportunties afforded to Mr. Orr upon his 1945 graduation. By all accounts, he operated a business that valued his customers and continues to thrive even today. North Branch Schools is committed to putting all available dollars in the classroom to benefit our students. We want to ensure our community that we value your children and will work tirelessly to earn your trust.
I am looking forward to great things in 2017. I am appreciative we have an exceptional board of education that values all NBAS employees and the outstanding work they do on a daily basis in educating our children. I am grateful our community continues to support our district. And, I am thankful for individuals like Preston Orr who set an example for all of us on how to lead a life of purpose.
