Preston Walker, Junior at NBHS, has been hunting since he was 10 years old. Preston has hunted many places including Ontonagon, MI and even South Dakota with his Dad and some family friends. Preston has learned patience and discipline in the woods and through his hunting practice. In compliance with the laws and regulations, Preston applied for his first license to hunt bear in Ontonagon when he was 12 years old, and every year after that for 5 years, and now at 17 he received his license to hunt bear.

On August 1 of this year he put up his trail camera and carefully placed 500 lbs of peanut butter and granola to entice the bear. Every three weeks he would visit his hunting site in Ontonagon to tend the bait and check cameras so he could analyze his visitors and study their patterns. The season officially opened on September 10. On September 12 Preston was sitting in a tree stand with his dad and his 20-06. Preston spied the bear heading his way. He was patient while the bear made his way to the perfect spot and it was then Preston fired a perfect shot and downed the large female black bear. His harvest dressed out at 228 pounds. Preston plans to have a head mount made and display it in their basement. Congratulations Preston!
