North Branch School Closing Information:
With winter weather upon us you may be wondering how NBAS make the decision to close or stay open:
HOW DO WE MAKE OUR DECISION?
*Information on road conditions from our local county road commission supervisor, transportation director and local police.
*County Superintendents are in constant communication with each other to discuss various factors affecting each district.
*Communication with contiguous school district personnel (Brown City, Marlette, Mayville, and Lakeville).
*Consideration that many of our high school students drive to school.
*Amount of snow/ice and forecast.
*Temperature and wind chill as we have students walking to school and/or waiting for the bus to pick them up.
WHO MAKES THE DECISION?
*The Superintendent of schools is responsible for the final decision which is based on all the factors above.
WHEN IS THE DECISION MADE?
Our goal is to make the decision to stay open or to close no later than 5:30 a.m. There may be times when the final decision is delayed due to extenuating circumstances. We will always make the
safety of students and staff our top priority.
WHAT IS THE PARENTS' RESPONSIBILITY?
Please understand that in Michigan snow, ice, and extreme temperatures are a normal part of winter. Our bus drivers practice safe winter driving as school will operate more often than not when it snows. Parents of driving age children who have concerns about safe driving for their child in snowy conditions should consider having them ride the bus on inclement weather days. If you as a parent ever feel it is not safe for travel due to your local road conditions, you have the right to keep your child home. Parents are asked to please reinforce inclement weather driving skills with your child:
* leave home earlier for school
* reduce speed
* leave extra car lengths between you and the closest vehicle
* clear entire car of snow and ice including all windows.
Please contact the Administrative Office at 810-688-3570 if you have any questions.
