BUYING A SUNSEEKER

Which is the right boat for you?

Hello, and please allow me a moment to introduce myself. My name is James Carter, and I am the sales director for Nautikos, the official Sunseeker dealer in South Florida and Latin America. I have been working within the luxury yacht sector from when I was 19 years old. First with Lazzara Yachts in Tampa and now with Sunseeker in Miami. In addition to my finance degree from the University of South Florida, I have over 25 years work experience.

Regardless of what other people may tell you, buying a yacht is an investment. Boating may not reward you financially, but you can not put a price on the time spent with family and loved ones, and the untold adventures you can only experience while on board a boat.

One other thing people wont remind you of is this: the true cost of ownership can only be properly calculated when you sell your boat, and the selling price is deducted from purchase price plus improvements; to give the depreciated total. Sometimes, saving money on the front end will not serve you well when it's time to sell.

Selecting a brand that you can grow with, while minimizing depreciation when moving from one model to the next is an important factor. What is the overall value proposition of a boat, a brand, or a dealership? What level of service do you expect? What is an acceptable level of depreciation for the duration of anticipated ownership? Should you purchase new or pre-owned? Flybridge or express cruiser? What optional extras should you be looking for? What options help resale value in the future? Do you need a full-time captain, part-time captain, or no captain at all? Should you use a maintenance service?

When you are weighing your options, you ensure the following. 1. The primary objective is finding the right boat for the right price; there is never a right price for the wrong boat. 2. The broker has a proven track record in the industry and has references from recent and existing customers.
