As I was thinking these awful thoughts I realized I was cold. I went to go grab a blanket from my side of the tent and noticed that it was soaked. I was very confused because our rain guard was on, but my stuff was wet. We then realized that the wind was so strong that it had moved our rain guard over and was only covering Ally’s side. So now I was cold and had no blanket or sleeping bag to sleep with. Suddenly I felt us move.

"One minute pitch black another so bright it was blinding"

Yes, I mean move; our tent was sliding. When Ally and I had set up our tent we couldn’t find flat land. At the time this was not a problem, so we decided to set it on a little bit of an incline. Either the severity of the storm, or the lack of strength our steaks had, left us sliding a few feet down the hill. This was my breaking point. I could no longer hold myself together; I was freaking out. This was by far the scariest night of my life.

The rain continued all night, but the thunder and lightning settled down enough for us to fall asleep. When we woke up the next morning we could all breath again. The worst was over, and we were thankful to be finally safe. Last night when I was going through my periodic hyperventilating, I was glad that I had my best friend Ally to comfort me. I could not have chosen better people to have gone through that with. Even though that night was awful, the rest of our weekend was great. I still love camping and am excited to go again. Maybe this time, though, I will check the weather more.

This is a picture of Ally and I on our annual camping trip.
