What are some of the benefits of being a ski patroller?

“Well we get free passes, we get to cut the line, we get a free season pass for our whole family, we get half off food, free rentals, and get discounts at discounts at other mountains. Another benefit is we get to help people get down the mountain safely.”

Why did you choose to work at Wachusett Mountain over other ones?

“It’s the biggest and closest mountain to my house.”

What was the worst accident you have seen?

“A broken femur. A person collided into another person. A snowboarder hit a skier, which resulted in the skier getting a broken femur.”

What was your best experience?

“I guess my best experience is that we get to ski first thing in the morning with the all groomed trails and all new snow. That is the best thing about it.”

What kind of advice can you give to someone that is trying to become a ski patroller?

“Runnnnnn…. ha ha just kidding. It is a lot of work but if you love to ski, anyone can handle it. The advice is that it is a great hobby and you meet great people. You are helping the mountain out by helping people down the mountain.”

Craig is very passionate for skiing. This shows through his responses above. Craig explained that the community of people is why he loves to be a ski patroller. I hope one day to become a ski patroller just like him. His advice made me more driven to pursue this job. I think my background in nursing will give me a head start with the medical training required. Overall, Craig really helped me decide if I really want to become a ski patroller. His input was greatly appreciated, and I thank him so much for letting me interview him.
