Cars, buses, trains, boats and planes account for 13% of global greenhouse gases. Animal agriculture accounts for 51%. A study done by oxford university researchers found that following dietary recommendations would cut food related emissions by 29% if everyone were to adopt a vegetarian diet it would cut emissions by 63% and if they were to follow vegan diets by 70% (Fight Climate Change by going Vegan). Then study also found that the carbon foot print of meat eaters was 50% to 54% higher than a vegetarian and 99% to 102% higher than vegans (Fight Climate Change by going Vegan). Not only all that but if the whole of America adopted a vegetarian lifestyle it would be the equivalent of taking 46 million cars off the road (Zelman, Joanna). Cutting the emissions from transportation and energy use isn’t enough to change anything. The only real way to slow the effects of greenhouses gasses is for the whole world is to slow down our consumption of meat, eggs and dairy products. By doing that we could bring the gas down to a safe level.
