vegans.” (Zelman 2014). The contribution of meat eating to environmental issues being so apparent has even caused our former president Barack Obama to implement regulations on carbon emissions for power plants. He required a 30% reduction in emissions by 2030.
“Veganism is not a fringe philosophy – it is a moral baseline that is consistent with beliefs that most of us already hold. Veganism is a simple matter of refraining from participating in unnecessary and harmful use of sentient beings.” (Cudahy 2015). Animal testing may provide less suffering for humans but when you consider that cosmetics are not necessary for life, we should conclude that these inconveniences should come hand in hand with our wants. Animals do not benefit from cosmetics in a ny form, they certainly do not run around the wilderness sporting the newest shades of Kylie Jenner’s lip kits, so why should they experience any of the backlash from what we solely benefit from? Aside from the moral aspect of our wrong doings, “According to Cruelty Free International, animal testing is pretty pointless; the science of it is ineffective, as animals don’t develop the same diseases humans do. As for cosmetic testing, the potential reactions of animals could be completely unrelated to humans.” (Zuazua 2017). This proves animal testing to not be our most reliable method in attempt to preserve our safety. Being aware that companies still practice this testing on animals can help us prevent it. Simply avoiding cosmetics that participate in animal testing can and will make a significant change in the way companies feel about it and utilize it if many people joined.
For years research has proven that a vegan diet can help reduce the risk of some health risks. For example, the refraining from red meats helps cut the risk of heart disease within vegans. “However, vegan diets limit some of the nutrients your body needs on a daily basis and affect your system’s ability to absorb nutrients efficiently.”(Coffman 2017). This is argued for a vegan diet that is avoiding meat and ultimately avoiding protein by not finding appropriate alternatives to the protein source they have decided to cut out. Concentrating on what you eat is crucial when practicing a vegan, or even a vegetarian, diet. Protein is an essential part of any diet so when deciding on cutting out meat, the largest source of protein in most people's diet, careful consideration must go into how you will get your protein. Weight loss seems to be very common in people switching to vegan diets because the diet consists mostly of fruits and vegetables which are low calorie foods. This could be considered a good or bad thing depending on the current weight status of each newly
