Today’s society is so fast pace and we don’t take into consideration truly how much we waste on a daily basis. America in particular has a serious problem with waste. We only make up 5% of the world’s population but we generate 30% of the worlds garbage. Contrary to popular belief, all that trash doesn’t just disappear, there’s over 1,980 landfills in the entire US ( “Top 10 to Get Started.”).  We live in a disposable society, mostly for convenience. The goal of a zero-waste lifestyle is for zero trash to be sent to the landfills or incinerators to reduce the amount greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. Every day we throw away things like paper towels, plastic shopping bags, disposable dinnerware, plastic containers and leftovers are just some examples. Easy alternatives to these disposable items are reusable rags, non-disposable and biodegradable dinnerware, always bringing your own shopping bags, buying in bulk and bringing Mason jars to grocery stores instead of using plastic. For bad and leftover food, you can start a simple compost. Another common place where we overuse items in the office. We waste money and recourses by eating out, so bring your own lunch to work in reusable containers
