Vegetation Characteristics : Documenting the type of vegetation present determines which species of plants will colonize newly trapped sediment or will grow well if planted there . For example , plant types vary based on the salinity of the water at the site and elevation of the site , and sediment composition of the site .
SCDNR ’ s Living Shorelines Summary Report ( 2019 ) includes a decision tree which provides an outline of which practice is suitable given these site conditions . See Figure 32 on the following page .
