Maintenance
Pervious surfaces require some occasional maintenance to retain proper function and structural integrity . Routine maintenance needs to occur frequently to keep the surface clean , inspect areas of change due to weather , and removal of any accumulated debris . In the event of snowfall or other debris removal , only rubber-tipped shovels should be used to prevent damaging the surface . Seasonal and annual maintenance should be conducted to inspect previous pavement after storms to make sure that stormwater drains properly , the surface is prepped for winter , and getting it ready for the spring . For permeable interlocking pavers , replace and or replenish the top layer of stone between joints with new clean stone after sweeping or vacuuming as needed . Deep cleaning can be done by pressure washing or vacuuming , as needed , when the surface is clogged and no longer allows for proper drainage . For continued functionality of the porous pavement system , they must not be sealed , repaired , or repaved with nonporous materials .
