The Kiawah Island Natural Habitat Conservancy , Inc . ( Kiawah Conservancy ) is a 501 ( c )( 3 ) non-profit land trust with its base of operations on Kiawah Island , South Carolina . The Kiawah Conservancy is a qualified conservation organization operating primarily as a land trust which is accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission . For over 25 years , the Conservancy has worked to protect important natural habitats for plants and wildlife , to research the ecological components that contribute to the sustainability of Kiawah Island ’ s unique flora and fauna , to implement habitat restoration programs , and to connect people with nature . The following document is the culmination of efforts coordinated by the Kiawah Conservancy ’ s project activities over the past few years to build a consensus on the use of novel practices to pursue on Kiawah Island . The purpose of the project was to address barriers to coastal resilience by engaging with community stakeholders to reach a consensus on the use of nature-based solutions . Expanding the use of these practices to restore and enhance natural systems will assist in strengthening the resilience of our human and wildlife communities .
