Theresa May ’ s despot ambitions underlined by her campaign so far

By Matthew Clifton
Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn has both been on the campaign trail this week , whilst Corbyn has been out meeting the public and a lot of videos and pictures surfacing of him interacting with people on the campaign trail . However , Mrs May has been accused several times already of purposefully avoiding the public and setting up events that were either invite only or hidden from members of the public . When she has been pictured with people , they have often been having a go at her .
There are 5 notable situations that Theresa May has been accused of avoiding from the public to avoid answering real questions and defending the record of the Conservatives in government , since the election was announced .
Firstly , when she announced the election she stated that there would be no TV debates , this prompted an immediate backlash with many accusing Mrs May of running scared . But as the campaigns started from either side , it has been clear which party wants to substance and which one repeats the same rhetoric . The campaigns began and Theresa May went to Clay Cross , Derbyshire , and visited the IKO Polymeric factory . Except as images emerged , the factory itself was looking very sparse and it had turned out that she didn ’ t meet any of the workers and only accepted questions from journalists , she even forgot where she was when telling journalists “ I ’ m pleased to come to this … err … this particular town .”
Theresa May ’ s campaign had only just begun and it had already got off to a rocky start , however , media coverage and attacks on her , were still limited . Eventually she came to Leeds , where Mrs May held a campaign event at the Shine building , a grade II-listed building . But the event took place at 6pm , after all the workers had gone home for the evening and it was an invite-only event .
Possibly one of the more publicised events was a visit to Aberdeenshire , where she booked Crathes Hall for a campaign event , however , the hall itself is in the middle of nowhere with many locals pointing out other places more centrally she could ’ ve held her event . But this wasn ’ t the worse aspect of the situation , the event was listed as a child ’ s party , prompting locals and commentators to react angrily at the secretive measures undertaken by Theresa May and the campaign team , Naturally Unnatural contacted Crathes Hall for confirmation , their response was “ The event on 29 th April was a private hire which did not contravene the rules relating to the hall ’ s charitable status . However , there are issues arising from this booking which have led us to examine our policies and procedures more closely .”
The fifth and final example is an event held in an industrial estate in Cornwall . Theresa May would have been looking to put the problems of Crathes Hall behind her but local reporters were furious at the

stage-management of the Mrs May ’ s visit . Staff from Cornwall Live said that the event was very “ tightly controlled ” and that they were locked away from the PM and only let out to be allowed 3 minutes of questions , that they weren ’ t allowed to film . Staff stated , “ level of media control here is far and above anything I ’ ve seen before ”.
If Labour and Jeremy Corbyn had exercised these levels of control over campaign events , the media would have slaughtered them for it . But there has been little focus , just a few mentions and the Daily Mail , The Sun and The Daily Express barely covered it . But as soon as Diane Abbot accidentally got her figures mixed up , every outlet jumped on it and then pursue to label Labour a danger , despite the policy itself being a very good idea .
Every mistake , minor or major that the Labour campaign does is highlighted with a great fanfare but Theresa May ’ s dictatorship-like campaign has garnered criticism but accusations of incompetency have been few and far between . She is holding the public to contempt and acts like a despot who visits the ‘ peasants ’ of her realm , it is a campaign that Vladimir Putin , Kim Jong-Un and Donald Trump would be proud of and has no place in a modern democracy .
