Imagine an animal so rare that many scientists who have studied it have never laid eyes on it . Imagine an entire population of enthusiasts who search endless hours in hopes of seeing this animal , settling instead for simply hearing its call , and upon hearing its call , chalk up the experience as the thrill of a lifetime . Imagine knowing that you know where this elusive creature lives . Still , you are unwilling to share your knowledge because doing so could put the remaining few animals in in jeopardy of of extinction . . Such is the eastern black rail .
