Naturally Kiawah Winter/Spring 2021 - Volume 43 | Página 35

While speaking with some friends about my blog posting , I learned that another Kiawah artist , Tacey Carroll , has embraced the treasures of the sea in yet a different way . Using her wonderfully artistic eye , Tacey creates sculptures not unlike Jane ’ s natural fusions , using sculpt modeling compound . The results are quite beautiful and stunning both in terms of creativity and natural color . For more information about her creative process visit https :// www . taceycarroll . com / nl /? nid = 179171 & type = html .
I visited Tacey in her Kiawah home studio and was astonished at the number of sculptures she ’ s created — one more beautiful than the next . Varied in size and color , each one has its unique personality and is designed exclusively from shells found on Kiawah ’ s beach . Although having become a full-time resident on Kiawah fairly recently , Tacey and her family have been visiting for many years , and her resulting shell collection is immense . As word has spread , others have begun to contribute their unique findings to her collection .
Both artists spend a great deal of time and effort to create their final products . Jane tells me that she will work off and on for a single painting over weeks , even months . Tacey ’ s process is quite different but equally time-consuming . She , too , is a wonderful painter and an excellent golfer .
I mentioned to both Jane and Tacey that I ’ d never come across anything like the incredible finds in their collection . Independently of one another , both told me it ’ s essential to keep a keen eye out for the shells , especially at low tide . Both agreed they never remove a shell with a living creature from its place on the beach .
Both artists have works available for sale on a limited basis . Jane ’ s art can be seen on her blog site janeiwanstudio . wordpress . com /. Tacey ’ s shell sculptures are featured on her website taceycarroll . com , and she can be reached by email at tacey @ mac . com . NK
