Reflections of the Chair: Looking Forward A If the Beatles will forgive me: “I don’t know why you say goodbye, I say hello.” fter six years of service to the Kiawah Island Conservancy, Richard Ames is ending his term as chairman of the Board of Trustees. As our chair for the past two years, Richard has guided us through a period of high growth. Under his leadership, conserved property on Kiawah has exceeded 2000 acres. Just as importantly, more Island property owners and visitors are participating in Conservancy activities than ever before. Luckily, Richard will remain active with us for two more years, offering his wisdom as past chairman. Now I have the opportunity to say “Hello.” I look forward to the privilege of chairing the Conservancy Board of Trustees for the next two years. I am anxious to continue the legacy of habitat preservation, enhancement, and education. Our staff and trustees will continue to pursue opportunities to increase our conservation footprint. At the same time, we will work to introduce creative programs that will provide you, as property owners and stakeholders, more ways to be involved. The Conservancy is in its 21st year, having accomplished much toward its goal of creating a “unique balance of nature and development.” It is exciting to look forward to the potential in front of us! Please join in our efforts to continue to preserve the natural beauty that makes Kiawah such a special place. Offer your observations, suggestions, and concerns. Let us know your ideas for improvement. We are all stronger with healthy communication and participation. Your Conservancy looks forward to continuing to highlight KiaWONDERS!
