Currents I feel one of the best kept secrets on the Island is … wait for it, the people! This year the Conservancy has sponsored many activities. Some were special social events purchased at the Legacy Gala, and others were our regularly scheduled educational programs, including Conservation Matters, Earth Day, and our annual Symposium, this year featuring bobcats. None of these would be possible without the considerable effort of talented staff, trustees, and committed supporters Events purchased at the Legacy Gala, our signature annual fundraiser, included an oyster roast donated by John and Martha LaRoach, a BBQ with Music donated by Britt Stinson and Richard Ames, and several Charleston Harbor picnics on a restored trawler-style boat donated by generous relatives. The gift of space given by KICA has been a huge plus, and we thank Kay Narmour, for helping us make this year’s programs a success. Critical members of our team this spring include Barbara Robinson, everyones’s best friend on the Island, Laura VanDerwerker, our planner and gracious hostess, and our intern, Chase Sanders. They have consistently made it happen and made it look easy, allowing us to bring our message of conservation to property owners old and new. People make the difference; they turn the wheel that is conservation on this Island. Without donors, volunteers, including hard-working trustees, and extra help from our full and part-time staff we could not accomplish all the events 70 that are on a weekly calendar for our organization. Check our website for upcoming activities so you can experience our many offerings. People are our KiaWonders, and we are thankful for them every single day.
