Wandering Lowcountry
Waterways … With a Camera
Story by Shauneen Hutchinson;

T
ake a trip along any of the waterways of
the Lowcountry, and you are likely to see
Eric Horan piloting a small boat filled with
passengers, many of whom will have a
camera in hand. Eric is a commercial and environmental
photographer based in Beaufort, South Carolina. As a young
person, he spent most of his time outdoors on his family’s
ranch in Colorado hunting, hiking, boating, fishing, and
skiing. He spent summers in northern Michigan racing
sailboats. Eric graduated from Colorado Mountain College
in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, with a degree in commercial
art and photography. His first job included photographing
wildlife for the Colorado Parks & Wildlife Department
documenting wildlife behavior. For him, photographing
everything from bighorn sheep, elk, and coyote to bullfrogs,
opened the door to a life-long study of the natural world.
