Making a Magazine
Naturally Kiawah WINTER / SPRING 2017 • VOLUME 37
Naturally Kiawah, like the work of the Kiawah Conservancy, is the product of many enthusiastic, dedicated, talented volunteers. They share their photographic skills and writing expertise with us in every issue. They bring us knowledge about our Island and a renewed appreciation for its beauty— morning, noon, and night. NK
Dennis Allen, PhD is a man who obviously loves his job. He is the resident director of the Baruch Marine Field Laboratory, Belle W. Baruch Institute for Marine and Coastal Sciences of the University of South Carolina near Georgetown, South Carolina. He is at home any place on the water in the beautiful Winyah Bay where his research about plankton has continued for over 30 years. He took us on a tour of the North Inlet and knew every single of his feathered neighbors living there.
Pamela Cohen and her work are well known across Kiawah Island and beyond. She blends her biology background with her expertise as a professional photographer to create extraordinary images. She conducts workshops throughout the Lowcountry and most recently in Venice, Italy. Her work is exhibited locally at the Martin Gallery.
Christopher Widuch makes his second appearance in the magazine with a terrific article on Night Vision( pages 52-53). He was recently elected to the Town of Kiawah Island Council, but we will make sure he saves time to write for us.
Todd Pangborn and his wife Lori have found their way to Kiawah Island more than once. Todd is a mechanical engineer by profession but a sand sculptor by passion. Both Todd and Lori spent much of their vacation on the Kiawah beach and were so generous in sharing their time and story.
