This Is The Kiawah Conservancy

We cannot say it often enough. The Kiawah Conservancy is a grassroots movement, and anyone who has ever wanted to preserve and enhance the habitats and wildlife of Kiawah Island is a part of the organization. Kiawah is a magical place in any light. In this issue we have looked at a barrier island just 40 years after modern development began and found a place that is still replete with unparalleled wildlife. It features areas of habitat that remain much as they have been for centuries, and an amazing assembly of people who work to be sure all of it will be available for their children and grandchildren. Consider the activities of the Conservancy and make it a point to participate in your organization— anytime, in any way. You have an opportunity to do something special. Consider maintaining the understory as you landscape your yards. Walk often but carefully on the beaches, watching for shorebirds and making certain they have the opportunities they need to rest and feed. Choose to be an active participant in Paradise. NK

In the fall of 2017 the Kiawah Conservancy will present the fourth of its annual symposia. This one will be a sellout, so watch for the announcement and make your reservations early. The topic is Shorebirds of Kiawah Island. Local and national experts are coming to speak, and Cindy Neal and her professional crew have already started filming another amazing video. Expect an unforgettable evening!
The Sandcastle Community Center is the site of many Conservation Matters programs. We are fortunate to have the Kiawah Community Association as a partner in so many of our outreach programs. We have featured bees, whales, the South Carolina rice culture, wildflowers, bird identification, medicinal uses of native plants, and so much more. Coming on March 8, 2017— Dolphins in the Lowcountry.
