If you’ re like many of our Conservancy friends, you’ re always seeking ways for visitors and relatives to learn more about our wildlife neighbors and our Island’ s history and bio-diversity. In mid-2016, the Conservancy launched a series of self-guided tours throughout the Island, entitled Naturally Kiawah Pathways. We know many of you have already experienced a tour and hope others will soon join us.
Each of the tours includes 10 – 12 points of interest that can be a geographic location or a wildlife species. Oral and written commentary and photographs accompany each location, designed for you to learn something about this place you likely did not know. Tours are designed to be completed by bike or on foot in 60 – 90 minutes. As an alternative, you can download the app and take a tour from the comfort of your living room for the simple pleasure of knowledge gained.
The tours that are available currently include:
••
Treasures of the Beach. Our newest tour challenges you to find all the creatures that live on our beach and to get to know them better.
••
Kiawah’ s Ponds. Find some of the best places to spot alligators and winged creatures in some of the Island’ s most
scenic ponds.
••
The Preserve. Our premier walking tour has quickly become a favorite for high-school classes visiting the Island. Bring a picnic lunch!
••
Western Island. On this tour you will learn the most about our predevelopment history.
••
Central Island. From the river to the ocean, this tour features the Island’ s most beautiful sunsets, plantation-era history, and pelicans in the winter.
••
Eastern Island. Here you will find a thoroughly natural approach to Kiawah’ s newest neighborhood, Ocean Park. See the sunset and the moonrise from the same beach.
How easy are the tours to take? Simply log into Travelstorysgps. com at the app store on your mobile device and download the Kiawah tours. The apps are free, and the experiences priceless. The Conservancy sent a Pathways brochure and map to all property owners last summer. Stop by our office or call( 843) 768-2029 if you need a replacement or extras.
Your neighbors look forward to seeing you on your next Pathways excursion. NK
